Frequently asked questions

What should I wear / bring?

I recommend that you wear comfy, clean clothing that stretches and allows you to move freely. You are also welcome to wear a hip scarf or coin belt if you would like. Virtual Classes: If you have a full length mirror, it is sometimes nice to keep that nearby so that you can check your movements in it. In class we sometimes use yoga blocks and straps, so having those items handy can be helpful. If you don't own these items, a belt and some books also work well. We also occasionally play finger cymbals (zils). If you don't have a pair, no worries! They aren't required. Finally, I recommend that you have a glass of water nearby so that you can stay well hydrated while moving. In Person Classes: The studio is a shoe free zone and if you would like to wear socks, I recommend that you wear a pair with sticky bottoms designed to prevent slipping while moving. Also, please refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions and oils as these can cause breathing issues and we want to make sure that the studio is a safe environment for all students. Deoderant is encouraged. In class we sometimes play finger cymbals (zils). I have a few pairs to borrow, but if you have your own set, feel free to bring them! I will have some hip scarves available to borrow as well. Finally, I recommend that you bring a reusable water bottle so that you can stay hydrated.

Which class is right for me?

If you are just starting out in bellydance, then I recommend taking the Bellydance Beginnings class as it will introduce you to the fundamental bellydance movements. Once you know some bellydance fundamentals, then you are welcome to jump into the Bellydance Exploration classes. These are bit faster paced and include some intermediate level techniques. If you are looking for a gentle movement class then I recommend attending the Bellydance Beginnings class. This class has slower movements and is designed to be a self-care practice. Both the Drills & Dance Party classes are designed for all levels of dancers. These are fun and short movement practices that are designed to help keep you moving midweek. Please visit the "Classes" page of this website to see what classes are currently being offered.

When is a good time to start?

Weekly classes: Feel free to join in at any time. Series & Workshops: These begin on a specfic start date. If you would like to join a series, but are unable to attend the first class, feel free to reach out and I can work with you to see if joining mid-series will work based on your experience level etc. Please check the "Classes" page of this website to see current offerings and you can also subscribe to my newsletter to be the first to hear about future classes.
