What should I wear / bring:
I recommend that you wear comfy, clean clothing that stretches and allows you to move freely. You are welcome to wear a hip belt or coin scarf if you would like to. I will have some hip scarves available for you to borrow in class. The studio is a shoe free zone and if you would like to wear socks, I recommend that you wear a pair with sticky bottoms designed to prevent slipping while moving. In class we sometimes play finger cymbals (zils). I have a few pairs to borrow, but if you have your own set, feel free to bring them! Finally, I recommend that you bring a reusable water bottle so that you can stay hydrated.
Which class is right for me?
Perceptions - This class is designed for the brand new beginner and is a great place to start.
Connections - This class builds on the content learned in Perceptions. If you feel comfortable with the material covered in Perceptions or if you have prior bellydance experience and have a good solid understanding of the basic isolations, then this class will probably be a good fit.
Explorations - this class is an intermediate level class where it is assumed that you know the foundations of bellydance movement, finger cymbals and are comfortable learning combinations. This class explores Datura Style and Mindful Bellydance vocabulary and regularly incorporates group improv sessions using movements and steps taught in the previous two levels.
Expressions - this is an intermediate to advanced level class where it is assumed that you are comfortable with bellydance and the vocabulary covered in the previous levels. This class is more of a guided practice and skill development session where we work on upper level drills, group improv (leading and following) and explore emotional states of being through guided moving meditation sessions.

When is a good time to start?
Mindful Bellydance Perceptions & Connections (beginning & beyond beginning level classes) are taught in 8 to 10 week sessions. The information in these classes is cumulative so it is best to start at the beginning of a session unless you have prior bellydance experience. Feel free to reach out to me if you interested in jumping in mid-session and not sure if it would be a good fit.
Mindful Bellydance Explorations and Expressions (intermediate level classes coming in 2019) are taught as monthly classes. Each month we will be exploring a new mindfulness theme, dance drills and movement vocabulary. While these classes are not taught in sessions, you might find it easier to jump in during the first week of the month rather than the fourth week. However, you are welcome to drop in at any time if that is in your flow!
Do I need to register?
There is no need to register for the weekly classes at Yoga Hillsboro. You can drop in at any time, however I suggest that you read the note above, "When is a good time to start? "and check the calendar as there are a few weeks throughout the year when classes are not offered. If you are interested in private lessons, please contact me to discuss and schedule as private lessons are tailored to your goals and abilities.
Is Mindful Bellydance right for me?
Mindful Bellydance is designed to help you connect with your body and you are encouraged to find your own pace and adjust as needed. Regardless of your current weight, age or activity level, Mindful Bellydance will help you move your body from a place of love and desire for well being. However, if you have any physical concerns or injuries, I encourage you to meet with your doctor prior to starting class as I am not a medical professional and can not offer medical advice.
